In a nutshell: A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Chocó department, western Colombia, on 10 August — the most powerful to hit the country this century. At least 265 people are confirmed dead, more than 3,700 injured and over 4,100 reported missing. Cities including Cali, Pereira, Quibdó and Manizales sustained severe damage. Colombia declared a national disaster and deployed military and police nationwide.
